Glass Tears

Artist: Many Ray, Larmes (Glass Tears), 1937

I wonder if the title of this photograph and image itself was meant to aestheticize the sentiment that real tears would normally express.

I have always appreciated the depth of Man Ray's photography and how progressive it was for his time. Man Ray himself has been known to say that he would rather photograph an idea rather then an object and a dream rather then an idea, as for the rest, he painted that which he could not photograph.

I appreciate how through his exploration of real and unreal he continuously challenges still-life photography.

I respect how cerebral both he and his works of art were. -tM
