Under the Skin

This made me laugh. Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it did. I know one could go into a deep analysis of this painting given the title of the series, however, this stands as an obvious reminder to me of all the people I have encountered along the way, who, “underneath” it all have been everything but beautiful.

Inside turned out. This is quite a catastrophe of a piece, and of course I mean that in the best way possible. -tM

Narratives

Philip Loraca Dicorcia’s staged photography takes an in depth look at the worlds we have created. The juxtaposition of character and place, between fiction and reality, is what fosters and encourages the telling of the story. I find that his images point in a certain direction but never provide a definitive map.

Art is subjective after all, leaving ample space for us to fill in and question the rest: “What is appearance, and what is truth?” -tM

Sculptural Shadow Art

Tim Noble & Sue Webster are a London-based artist duo that create shadow art installations using carefully arranged objects. Using everything from trash to metal cans shot with BB pellets, they arrange these found objects in such a way as to cast shadows of people and skylines on the wall when a light is shined from a certain direction.

Cravings

"Loving is a journey with water and with stars, with smothered air and abrupt storms of flour: loving is a clash of lightning-bolts and two bodies defeated by a single drop of honey." - Pablo Neruda

There is opposition and struggle even in love.  A force so great, that if willing, allows you the opportunity to become more then what you are, by inclusion. -tM

Power Lines

Power lines, power suits, power plays, there is usually no room for veering off course when it comes to straight lines.

As limiting as they can be, there is something intensely beautiful about a line that is straight, that knows in which direction it wants to move.

Something beautiful and sexy indeed. -tM
