The Unexpected

I like when confronted with the unexpected in design and in people.

It’s in those moments that I am reminded of the creative forces in life, of making a space your own, not what the latest Pottery Barn suggests you do. And in person, I appreciate the courage of those who choose not to conform to anyone else’s standards but their own. It's translates into a beautiful self-assurance, a confidence so engagingly unconventional, that in my opinion lights up the world.

But then again, I have always been drawn to the unconventional, in people and in place, it’s just who I am. -tM

A Scripted Life

I was talking to a friend of mine who mentioned that he was overwhelmed by how scripted life felt here in N. America. That living abroad has made him realize how little truth and reality remains in a society that calls itself progressive.

The point is valid. Our society has become so Politically Correct that even a difference of opinion will not be tolerated. Instead of accepting our unique and REAL selves we have undoubtedly forced the authenticity of life to cower in a corner.

The passion and desire of life have left the building, as we continuously take a selfie to fake a life;  becoming fictional copies of one another. There is no originality left in our corporate, social media scripted world, where life is handed a prescribed text for every occasion.

I am not certain of the solution to this phenomena or movement on a larger scale, however I do know that wherever possible, as individuals, we should not hold back in authenticity, what we give, really give, becomes our quality. One shouldn't refrain especially in their love and exuberance for life. Don't be afraid to stand alone, authenticity is contagious.

And who knows, perhaps by being true to ourselves we can collectively and individually inspire a  bona fide unscipted movement. -tM
